Thomas R. Wussow Park

Cost: $2,800,000
Location: 500 Greens Road, Houston, Texas 77060
Project Overview

Thomas R. Wussow Park, along with City View Park, was developed through a coordinated public-private partnership to transform a formerly blighted site into a functional public greenspace. The property, acquired by the management district in 1993, previously contained deteriorated and flood-damaged apartment structures that were later demolished by the City of Houston.

Following the establishment of TIRZ 11, a developer agreement with the Archon Group enabled construction of the park as part of a broader multi-family redevelopment effort in the surrounding area.

Originally designed to provide accessible outdoor recreation, the park has since been expanded and modernized through a recent $1 million renovation funded in partnership with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Improvements include two youth soccer fields, new playground amenities, an adult fitness area, upgraded lighting, and enhanced landscaping with native plantings.

The project reflects a continued investment in maintaining and improving public park infrastructure, while responding to community input and supporting long-term usability, safety, and connectivity within the surrounding area.
