Message from our President, Greg Simpson

As we begin a new fiscal year, Greg Simpson, President of the North Houston District, reflects on the season of planning and progress. He highlights key achievements, including investments in public safety, infrastructure improvements, and community programs that foster a thriving environment. “This issue of Quadrants captures projects that illustrate our ongoing commitment to creating a place where people want to live, work, and invest,” Simpson notes.

Looking forward, the District is focused on building momentum with continued investments in beautification, park development, and commercial real estate trends. Simpson’s message underscores fostering safety, community, and connection as cornerstones of the District’s success.

Leadership Spotlight: North Houston Leading Ladies

This issue introduces the North Houston Leading Ladies series, celebrating women who are making a lasting impact in our region. Karen Marshall, METRO’s Director of Ridership & Client Services, shares her journey of resilience and leadership. Karen’s dedication to expanding transportation access and her role on the North Houston District Board showcase how transit solutions can benefit businesses, residents, and the environment. Her collaborative approach and mentorship efforts make her a standout figure in our community.

Transforming Wussow Park

The Parks Master Plan is shaping the future of green spaces in North Houston, with Thomas R. Wussow Park undergoing a major transformation. Plans include two youth soccer fields, a mini-pitch developed with the Houston Dynamo Football Club, shaded playgrounds, fitness zones, and eco-friendly landscaping. These updates ensure Wussow Park becomes a hub for family-friendly recreation and a reflection of the District’s commitment to sustainability and wellness.

National Night Out Success

This year’s National Night Out marked a milestone as we hosted the event at The Harvest Church for the first time. The venue offered ample parking, covered facilities, and a welcoming atmosphere for connecting residents, businesses, and law enforcement. With leadership from Event Chair Karicia Hill and support from Vice President of Public Safety Tracy Harrison, the event strengthened community bonds and showcased the importance of public safety partnerships.

Celebrating Public Safety Heroes

The District’s annual Public Safety Awards Luncheon honored 28 first responders and community members for their dedication to keeping North Houston safe. Highlights included a moving tribute video, the presentation of challenge coins, and remarks from Vice President of Public Safety Tracy Harrison, emphasizing innovative safety strategies that combine visible police presence, technology, and community engagement.

Insights on Commercial Real Estate

This quarter’s Commercial Real Estate Market Report offers hyperlocal statistics and expert insights. Leasing activity is on the rise, with businesses recognizing the value of investing in the North Houston District. Highlights include robust performance in the industrial and retail sectors, while the office market continues to navigate systemic challenges. Multifamily properties are showing signs of recovery, reflecting optimism in the sector.

Beautification and Maintenance in Action

The Field Services team continues to elevate the District’s public spaces with projects like curb painting, storm debris cleanup, power washing, and playground updates. These efforts ensure the area remains clean, welcoming, and well-maintained, contributing to the District’s appeal for residents and businesses alike.
