When it comes to lending options for businesses in the North Houston District, Tina Poindexter has you covered.

Frost is a full-service bank that is attuned to the needs of small and midsize businesses.  We are working to be a force for good in the area, by delivering services and products that facilitate growth,” she says.

Poindexter takes pride in her work at Frost because she sees how business owners benefit from the resources that Frost Bank provides.  One such resource is the Small Business Series open to customers and prospects, which touches on topics like legal and accounting.  “It’s important for us to be in growth markets like the North Houston District, where we can really make a difference,” she emphasizes.

Your Friendly Neighborhood Lender

As Vice President and Community Leader at Frost, Poindexter works with her Sales Manager to strategize on providing loans and other banking services to commercial customers. Additionally, she coordinates with partners at the Greens Bayou Financial Center who provide other banking services such as consumer products including loans and mortgages.  “I serve as the face to the community in collaborations with organizations like the North Houston District, chambers of commerce, and other professional groups and associations. The end goal is to drive new business here,” Poindexter says, adding “We are working to help establish a new trade area—the Financial Center—within the North Houston District.”

Coming Full Circle

Unlike most in the banking and lending space, Poindexter entered the field after an illustrious career in healthcare. “It just so happened that Frost was looking for someone who knew the healthcare industry to help build out its business banking program,” Poindexter recalls. Her prior experience in managed care and physician relations at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center made her the woman for the job.

Poindexter accepted the role at Frost and would continue in banking for the next 20 years, though she would work at several other banks before coming back full circle to Frost. She spent some time with a large national bank and various independent community banks that went through mergers or buyouts.

Poindexter was involved in an impressive total of five buy-out transactions, where her bank was acquired by a larger institution. Eventually, all roads led back to Frost.

Mentorship Matters

Poindexter was fortunate to learn from talented women mentors early in her career. “My first manager at Frost was a trailblazer. I learned communication skills and took cues on leadership style,” she says. She also received mentorship from other professional women involved in organizations like CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women) and CCIM (Certified Commercial Investment Member Institute).

As a leader, Poindexter welcomes different points of view and frequently seeks input when making decisions. “I am goal-oriented and direct, but also mindful of the people around me who contribute to the success of the organization,” she says.

Poindexter encourages young women early in their career to “take advantage of everything you can learn whether informally or through classes; invest in yourself educationally. Be patient with your professional growth, and with the people you interact with.”

Giving Back

Aside from community engagement with Frost, Poindexter has been volunteering for almost 20 years with the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for the MD Anderson Cancer Center. As a community member volunteer, she puts herself in the role of a patient participating in a clinical trial to evaluate the viability of the treatment. This includes evaluating whether the trial description is understandable, whether it seems safe, and raising questions from a layperson’s point of view. Her volunteer work helps ensure that new treatments for cancer progress through the clinical trials process.

In her spare time, Poindexter enjoys traveling abroad, playing golf, reading, and visiting the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.
