On Tuesday, October 7, the North Houston District joined local residents and businesses at National Night Out, which was hosted for the second year in a row by The Harvest. Attendees had the chance to connect with officers from Houston Police Department, Harris County Sheriff’s Office, and the Aldine ISD Police Department to learn about crime prevention and enjoy a fantastic evening with others from the North Houston area.
There were lots of free fun activities for community members, including games, bounce houses, and even train rides to enjoy. The Houston Police Department mounted units and a Harris County Sheriff’s Office helicopter made an impression on all ages, and the highly anticipated tug of war battles had participants and onlookers engaged and on their feet. Music, food, prizes, and fellowship were shared all across The Harvest’s grounds, which provided the ideal setting for our community to gather for this exciting annual event.

Planning National Night Out
National Night Out would not be possible without the law enforcement agencies and public safety partners, nonprofit organizations, and vendors who made the night so memorable. Bravo to Karicia Hill, NNO ’25 Event Chair from The Harvest, for her leadership in making this event such a success.
Hosting National Night Out is no small undertaking, with months of planning taking place leading up to the event. Tracy Harrison, North Houston District’s Vice President of Public Safety, says that all the organizing that goes into it is worth the effort for the reward of seeing the positive impact that National Night Out has on the community, especially the enhanced sense of camaraderie and connectedness among community members and law enforcement officers.
What is National Night Out?
National Night Out is a yearly campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make communities safer. It was launched in 1984 and is celebrated nationally on the first Tuesday in August. In Texas, we celebrate on the first Tuesday in October.
