Community + Police Partnerships

WHO: Participants will include area residents, local law enforcement, businesses and community partners and elected officials

WHEN: First Tuesday in October from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

WHERE: Tom Wussow Park, 500 Greens Rd. (Near I-45 North & North Sam Houston Parkway/Beltway)

WHY:  Public safety is a priority for the North Houston District, which is why it hosts one of the largest National Night Out events in town.

COST: The event is free and open to the public.

ACTIVITIES:

  • Annual tug-of-war competition featuring the Houston Police Department versus Harris County Sheriff’s Office
  • Raffles for giveaways of tablets, gift cards, gaming systems, and TVs are held near the end of the event
  • Photo booth
  • Petting zoo
  • Free food, snow cones, and refreshments
  • HPD Mounted Patrol, K9 officers
  • Harris County Sheriff’s Office Helicopter, High Water Rescue boat, motorcycle unit
  • Face painting and balloon twisting
  • Disney characters
  • DJ with dancing

National Night Out 40th Anniversary logo is red white and blue and resembles a police shield or patch.The North Houston District’s annual National Night Out celebration brings together area residents, businesses, community partners, and local law enforcement each October at Tom Wussow Park. This annual family-friendly event, one of the largest in Houston, is designed to enhance relationships among neighbors and law enforcement in a positive setting and to foster a sense of community within the North Houston area.

The District’s Vice President of Public Safety, Tracy Harrison, spearheads the National Night Out effort and is responsible for its monumental growth since 2014.

For the second year running, the National Association of Town Watch announced that the North Houston District was honored in its National Night Out Awards program, which recognizes communities for outstanding participation and engagement during the annual event.

“I’m incredibly proud,” said Tracy Harrison, Vice President of Public Safety. “National recognition means we, as a community, have one of the best National Night Outs in the country.
