Designing Tomorrow’s Parks & Trails
With nearly 60 acres of parks and more than six miles of trails, the North Houston District’s recreation system serves a growing population of more than 50,000 residents, 83,700 employees, and countless visitors who travel to our region for business and leisure. Whether you prefer to sit back and relax or squeeze in a lunch-hour jog, there’s something for everyone. Discover our thriving bayou wildlife habitats or admire more than 40 public art installations across the District.
Knowing that parks and trails are essential for healthy, thriving communities and improving the quality of life for all, the District seeks opportunities to expand our park system. In partnership with Asakura Robinson, the North Houston District worked with community members and key stakeholders in 2023 to develop a long-term vision and a near-term plan for priority investments in parks, trails, and pedestrian access projects.

Wussow Park Renovation
The North Houston District began construction on Monday, March 24, 2025, for the nearly $1M expansion and renovation project scheduled for Wussow Park. Funding for the project is split 50/50 between Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s Local Parks Grant Program and NHD. The Thomas R. Wussow Park expansion and renovation project is slated to last for four months, concluding at the end of July 2025. The expansion will feature two new youth soccer fields, a shaded fitness area, a new playground pod and equipment, enhanced lighting, and environmental improvements, including gardens with native plants. The park will remain open throughout the expansion but some areas will be temporarily closed while under construction.
