“Diversity really matters, and I would like to be that role model for somebody else,” Hershiira says. “Keep going and keep your eyes on the prize. Never be complacent. Keep setting goals and achieving them.”

At the heart of the North Houston District, women are leading with strength, vision, and purpose—transforming their communities and the lives of those around them. Our North Houston Leading Ladies series was created to shine a light on these dynamic women who are driving progress across sectors, industries, and neighborhoods. From business owners and nonprofit leaders to educators and public service professionals, these women reflect the diverse talent and leadership shaping the future of North Houston.

Our latest feature introduces a woman who’s redefining what it means to lead a public library in the 21st century: Hershiira Boone-Rodgers, Branch Manager at Aldine Branch Library.

Hershiira’s journey is rooted in passion, purpose, and deep connection to community. What began as a volunteer role as a student has grown into a vibrant career in library science—and a leadership position overseeing daily operations at one of Harris County’s most engaged and evolving library branches.

Since stepping into the Branch Manager role in early 2024, Hershiira has brought new energy to Aldine Branch Library, working alongside her team to deliver impactful programs that reflect the needs of a diverse community. From bilingual storytime and crafting sessions to ESL classes and assistance with citizenship, the library has become more than a place to check out books—it’s a hub for connection, learning, and support.

Hershiira’s story is one of perseverance, community care, and forward-thinking leadership. She’s also helping to launch exciting upgrades at the Aldine Branch Library, including a new family play area and expert-led workshops as part of the Family Place Libraries initiative funded by the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation.
